Richmond, VA - Del. David Toscano (D-Charlottesville) and Del. Charniele Herring (D-Alexandria) issued the following statements regarding the Governor's historic restoration of rights announcement.


Democrats in the Virginia General Assembly today stopped 24 Republican bills, including legislation that would have defunded Planned Parenthood, legalized LGBT discrimination and lowered the wages of working Virginians. Republican-backed legislation, previously vetoed by Governor McAuliffe, would have become law if not for Democratic votes to sustain the vetoes and kill the legislation in the Senate and House of Delegates.

Richmond, VA - Del. David Toscano (D-Charlottesville), Leader of the House Democratic Caucus, has appointed Del. Rip Sullivan (D-Fairfax) to serve as Campaign Chair for the 2017 cycle, completing the House Democratic leadership team. Toscano said, "Delegate Sullivan has proven himself a leader since the day he was elected to the House of Delegates and I'm excited to have him join our leadership team as we continue to elect more Democrats."

Governor McAuliffe today announced the full details of his FY2016-17 budget, which will make significant investments in education, from pre-k to higher education, workforce development, economic development, and health care.

Richmond, VA - Del. David Toscano (D-Charlottesville) was re-elected Minority Leader of the Virginia House of Delegates by acclamation at the annual winter retreat of the House Democratic Caucus on Saturday. Toscano, who previously had indicated he would resign the position, was convinced to continue serving due to appeals from his fellow caucus members as well as numerous leaders across the Commonwealth who reached out to ask him to continue in the role for another two years.  

Richmond, VA – Today Governor McAuliffe announced several executive actions to combat gun violence.  His actions include establishment of a Joint Task Force to prosecute gun crimes, banning the carrying of firearms in state government buildings, establishing a tip line for illegal gun activity, tracing guns used in crime, and encouraging judges & prosecutors to seek gun forfeiture in felony cases. 

Richmond, VA – Yesterday, Governor McAuliffe released a report from The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence that found over half of domestic homicides in Virginia were caused by guns.  The group recommended legislation that would prohibit gun possession by anyone under a protective order or those convicted of misdemeanors related to domestic violence.
